Important Information

Part 46 will be different this year. Utilizing computer-based training resources, we will provide a hybrid training event.

Limited in-person seating (~30) will be available at the Skagit Valley Convention Center, Mt. Vernon, WA.
Registrants may select in-person or virtual attendance. MSHA has communicated online training is acceptable when;

MSHA considers computer-based or other interactive training technologies to be training "methods," to be used by a competent person effectively and appropriately. This would not necessarily require that the competent person be in the room at all times; however, the competent person must be available to evaluate the trainee’s progress, and answer questions as they arise.

Presentations will encourage interaction with miners during topical sessions. A company receiving training at their location will need a competent person attending (per MSHA guidance above) to encourage discussion, interaction, miners are progressing and will validate attendance. A successful completion certificate will be provided.

Safety topics, subject to presenters, may include:

  • Contractor Safety Management - Dan Donovan, GEW-LLC
  • High Wall Safety
  • Power Haulage Initiative
  • 2020 Fatality Review
  • Applying Safety Practices under COVID protocols
  • Leroy Hopkins - New EFSMS Specialist - Kent Field Office

Because 7.5 hours of online training is both impractical and painful, we will provide topical training from the list above and anticipate approximately 3 hours of training.

The remaining training including changes at the mine site will need to be completed per the company safety plan.
In-person First Aid classroom training for 10 attendees per session will be presented at the Skagit Convention Center. Virtual attendance is also available.

3 options for in-person hands-on CPR Sessions:

  1. Live CPR training is available in small groups of 5 per session in the late morning and afternoon after online classroom training at the convention center on 2/23/21

  2. Pending registrations, a separate in-person hands-on CPR Training session can be scheduled in the south end.

  3. Interested in live hands-on CPR training at your location?
Confirm adequate attendance by contacting  Francis “Chico” Patalano at  253.381.4001 or [email protected]

These options will help get what you need for Part 46 training.
Thank you for your consideration this year as we adjust to the current phase requirements.
